OGL Camp
wooohoooo, completed the OGL camp!
Overall, the camp was a success i would say. there might be errors here and there, like overshotting of time slots. nevertheless, all of us who were involved have pulled it off. congrats to the sub-com, ex-co, year 3 help-outs and of coz the 1s who were behind the scenes planning for the events!
i felt that my role as a facilitator was great. if i had been given in-charge of other acitivity, i will not have liked it =) Being a facilitator really takes alot out of you. not only do you have to know them by names, you will also have to cater to different problems faced by them and making sure that they do not get lost in the events. A facilitator will also have to step out of his/her comfort zone and inject life to the group members. Interacting with them has really been a memorable experience for me. I did cheers with them, played acitivities with them and also done discussions with them. Leading a group of 9 proved to be challenging and i am proud to say that i have done it.
I am proud of my group members as well, they are xue ting, xing xuan, joser, guang zhe, veenotth, sarah, melissa, affi and amanda. They performed beyond my expectations during the group performance. Each group had to come up with a performance relating to the theme InRetrospect. Everyone looked dead on the first morning when they just came, some looked unwilling to be there, while some were being quiet. It wasn't easy for me to communicate with them during the 1st meeting. I can understand why as I have experienced it for myself during LTC camp as well. Eventually, some of the members outshine themselves by taking the initiative to speak up for the group. It brought life into them and they could stand firm as a group. I have enjoyed myself very very very much being with them. They showed me the qualities a leader should have, and they proved themselves to be worthy as an OGL! LayLing is also a facilitator of the group, we worked together to interact with them. Group 4, Manbits, we are proud to have been facilitators for you people. You guys will bring life to the freshies of 2007!
I was also in-charge of the sports league which were held after the morning warm-up. I hadn't made plans to what games were to be played, as i didn't know what game items were available. I feel that this was a mistake on my part, I should have thought of the possible games to be played and planned before hand. But i didn't do that. when the game items were revealed to me just shortly after the warm-up, I tried to think of the possible games to play. 2 Netballs and 1 Frisbe. So i decided that there will be 2 groups in each game, 2 Captain's ball and 1 Frisbe. I thank Dorcas, Shilong, ThiamWei for helping me with the games.(if i missed out anyone, don't flame me >.<, coz they are all that i can remember) I was at a loss at what to do for sports league as I didn't planned anything at all. Still, I went ahead with the games and it turned out alright. Not a great work done, but I pulled it off. I believed that i could have had 3 different games going on concurrently. Soccer, Captain's ball and Frisbe. I blamed myself for not thinking of the soccer game at that time. And being referee for 1 of the captain's ball game was tough, I didn't state out all the rules properly. Rules were added during the playtime. I could have stopped some actions that was wrongly taken, but i didn't. I could have used the chairs that was in the room at Forum, but i didn't thought of it. I don't think this activity was done well enough. Many mistakes I have made during this activity could have been easily solved if only I had planned ahead. I will take this as a stepping stone to further improvements in the future. This was a great experience.
Last but not least, Thank you Melody and Rahman for handing me the role of facilitator and in-charge of sports league. I would never have exceeded my own capabilities if not for the two of you. Thanks layling for being my partner facilitator, your help was greatly needed. Of course, Thank you sub-com and ex-cos for helping me in times of trouble, in times of need and in times of joy. Congrats to everyone! SBM club have made the OGL camp a success!
